He integrated Japanese style brush work with subtle play of earthy colours often with a glowing background. His works with strong far easten influences invoke oriental vastness and an infiniteness of space.

Wherein, Jamini Roy, a skillful portraitist and versatile artist deviated from academic western style to Indian roots seeking inspiration from India’s rich folk and tribal art. His early landscapes in audacious brush strokes are reminiscent of his academic training in western traditions made in the impressionist genre of painting. Another artist whose paintings created a buzz during pre-independence and post-independence era was Mukul Chandra Dey, a sensitive artist, he was a prominent painter who specialised in dry point etching, a European practice but his subjects remained indigenous.

Pablo Picasso is known for the number of styles he worked with and created during various periods of his life. The quality of working in varied styles also manifested in his graphics.

Picasso used dry point combined with original print making techniques usually to produce simplistic and expressive lines.
