Crackdown on illegal dairies

In a crackdown on illegal dairies and a drive to catch roaming animals on roads, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) on Friday seized 40 buffaloes from Shahdara north and south zones.

In Krishna Nagar, 18 buffaloes were seized from the illegal dairies in a raid but the mob gathered at the site and trucks carrying seized animals were followed by the dairy owners. ‘The dairy owners overpowered the driver of a truck and succeeded in taking that away. The truck was carrying six buffaloes. FIR against the action was lodged at Police Station Kashmere Gate and the remaining buffaloes were deposited in the Cattle Pond at Timarpur,’ said a senior EDMC official.

The dairy owners staged protest in all areas where the drive was being conducted and also met the EDMC Mayor in hope of some kind of relief.

‘The owners handed over a memorandum to me on Friday. we are acting on the court order’s and are in no position to help them. However, I have asked my officers to look for some kind of solution,’ said Annapurna Mishra, Mayor, EDMC.
