CPI(M) leader arrested for raping homeless woman

Police arrested a CPI(M) Zonal Committee Secretary on the charge of raping a woman on Thursday night at South 24 Parganas’ Mathurapur.

The accused leader, 45-year-old Raisuddin Molla, was taken to court on Friday and later remanded to judicial custody.

Police learnt that Raisuddin Molla is a CPI(M) leader in Mathurapur area. He is the secretary of Zonal Committee 1.

“The relatives of that woman threw her out of house. She took the shelter at the CPI(M) zonal officer. Molla took that chance,” said a police officer.

“Molla often came to the party office in the afternoon, when it was vacant. He raped the woman several times and threatened to kill her,” the officer added.

The woman came to the police station on Thursday night. She lodged an FIR against Molla.

Police arrested him from his house. However, the accused CPI(M) leader alleged that it was a conspiracy on the part of his enemies.

However, it should be recalled that a minor girl was allegedly gang-raped at a brick kiln at Mahishadal a few months ago, by some local CPI(M) supporters.

The police initiated a case after the incident. The girl was taken to a nearby hospital.

The case in Mahishadal is still unsolved, as police could not arrested the main accused Shekh Mohammad (30).

Police said the girl was alone in the brick kiln. His grandfather and grandmother, who also work there, were out for some work.

Those accused climbed over the wall and reached the 12-year-old girl.

She was given a lozenge which was actually a sleeping pill. The girl fell ill after taking the pill, and the youth raped her there.

The South 24 Parganas police started a case. “The accused person was remanded for judicial custody. After getting the written complaint from the woman, we did not waste time to arrest the accused person,” said a police officer.
