CPI(M)-Cong joint rally causes major traffic inconvenience

A rally organised by CPI(M) and Congress from Kabardanga to Behala crossing on Tuesday led to massive traffic congestion in the area.

Surya Kanta Misra, the CPI(M)’s state secretary, attended the meeting in support of Ambikesh Mahapatro, who is a member of a right’s group and contesting from Behala East Assembly constituency.

The party’s leader Sujan Chakraborty was also present in the rally.

Neither CPI(M) nor Congress had fielded candidate from the constituency as Mahapatro is contesting from there.

The rally that was organised on Tuesday morning badly affected the traffic in the area. People heading to their offices as well as school goers were highly inconvenienced.

The situation was such that even there was no space for an auto-rickshaw to pass. Buses were found standing in a queue and people had to walk to reach the nearest Metro station as they had to reach their destinations on time.

The police had tried to keep the vehicles moving, though in a slower pace, but their attempt failed as the rally had choked the major thoroughfares in the area. The traffic sergeants took around an hour to clear the congestion.
