Court to hear contempt petition against Zardari

A Pakistani court will hear a contempt of court petition filed against President Asif Ali Zardari on 19 June for holding dual official and political offices in violation of a court order.

The Lahore High Court on Wednesday fixed 19 June as the date for deciding the maintainability of the petition filed by lawyer Azhar Siddique.

Siddique said Zardari had not disassociated himself from the political office of co-chairman of the ruling Pakistan People's Party as soon as possible as was expected following a ruling given by the High Court in May last year on the issue of the President's dual offices.

He contended that the direction issued by the High Court had not been obeyed. Siddique said the President had also called National Assembly Speaker Fehmida Mirza and greeted her for giving a ruling in favour of Gilani.
