Court records statements of three policemen

A Delhi court on Thursday recorded the statements of three policemen in a case of alleged gangrape of a 52-year-old Danish woman by nine persons here last year.

Additional Sessions Judge Kaveri Baweja recorded the statement of three policemen including two head constables and a sub-inspector, as prosecution witnesses, and fixed the matter for recording further evidence on August five.

Among the three cops present in the court were Head Constable Ajay Kumar, who was the photographer of the crime scene, and sub-inspector Pankaj, who was in-charge of the mobile crime team.

Pankaj, whose examination-in-chief has already been conducted, was cross-examined on Thursday.
The court had on July 9, issued summons to the cops for today after the defence counsel submitted that he would cross- examine sub-inspector Pankaj in the presence of the other witness Ajay.

The court had earlier recorded statements of the victim and two Danish police officers who had come here from Denmark in pursuance to summons.

In an in-camera hearing on July 1, the woman had narrated to the judge the entire incident of January 14, 2014 and identified three of the six adult accused as the ones who had gang-raped her.

The police, in its charge sheet, had said that the nine accused, all vagabonds, had allegedly robbed and gang-raped the Danish tourist at knife-point on that night after leading her to a secluded spot close to the Divisional Railway Officers’ Club near New Delhi Railway Station. The nine accused, including three juveniles, were arrested. The three juveniles are facing an inquiry before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) here.
