Couple found dead inside their house in Siliguri

Mystery shrouds the death of a couple whose bodies were recovered from inside their house at Sukanta Nagar area of Siliguri on Wednesday morning.

Police said that Atul Sarkar and his wife Purnima Sarkar were found dead inside their house. Atul was found hanging from the ceiling while his wife was lying dead on the bed. The local residents found them dead and informed the matter to the local police station after which police reached the spot and sent the two bodies to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for post mortem examinations.

Police came to know that the couple and their 10 year old daughter rented the house a few months ago and started living there. Purnima was earlier married to another person and had two children. She was currently living with her second husband in Siliguri.

Police said that their daughter was in the adjacent room on Tuesday night. On Wednesday morning, when she stepped into her parents’ room, she saw them dead and screamed. The local people rushed to the spot and found the bodies.

The local people told the police that there was apparently no quarrel among the two victims. They used to behave well with the local residents and also used to mix with the people normally. They could never thought that they would face such fate. Police are yet to ascertain if the husband had committed suicide after killing his wife. Police have started a detailed probe into the incident.
