Couple booked for attacking BSES lineman

The police have booked a couple for allegedly attacking a BSES lineman, who had gone to disconnect the power line to their house at North-East Delhi’s Karawal Nagar area.

A BSES team had gone to the house located in New Sabhapur on September 29 when its members were allegedly attacked by the couple.

In a police complaint, lineman Radhe Shyam alleged that the owner of the house, Anil Jha and his wife Archana attacked him with sticks when the team reached their house to disconnect the power line.

A case was registered at the Karawal Nagar police station and Anil was arrested, while Archana managed to obtain anticipatory bail, said a police officer.

“The team had gone to the house to disconnect the power line and remove the meter as the consumer, the woman, had defaulted and bills of over Rs 23,000 was pending against her. The last cheque issued by her was dishonoured by the bank. Before initiating the process of disconnection, the consumer was requested to pay. But she refused, leaving the team with no option,” said a BSES spokesperson.

In another such incident at Jai Prakash Nagar on September 30, a consumer had allegedly threatened a BSES official, who had gone to disconnect power line and remove the meter over non-payment of bills, with a pistol, said the spokesperson. “These are not isolated incidents. Efforts of discom teams to check irregularities are often thwarted by law-defying people,” he added.
