Councillor’s husband booked for misbehaving with married woman

A 21-year-old woman has filed a molestation and robbery complaint against the husband of a South Delhi councillor on Tuesday. The accused is still absconding.

According to police, the accused has been identified as Surendra Bhardwaj who is the husband of Poonam Bhardwaj, the councillor from Raj Nagar ward in Bijwasan constituency.

The victim told police that the incident took place at a coaching centre in South-west Delhi’s Dwarka area on Tuesday. The woman used to study in the coaching centre to prepare for competitive examines.

She further told police that she knew Bhardwaj for the past two months. “She needed an OBC certificate for which Bhardwaj offered her help,” a police official said quoting the victim. A few days ago, Bharadwaj called her to his residence on pretext of collecting the certificate. The victim found him alone at his residence and smelling rat she insulted him for calling her while he was alone. Further on Tuesday, Bharadwaj allegedly barged into her coaching centre and molested her.

She told police that when her teacher opposed the act, Bharadwaj assaulted her and took away the victim’s tablet and Rs 4,000 cash from her purse.

A case under relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered and further nvestigation is underway. Raids are being conducted to nab the accused, a senior police official said.
