Cops turn robbers for Rs 3 crore

Two officials of Delhi police were arrested by Crime Branch for being involved in a Rs 3 crore-robbery that took place in Shakarpur area of east Delhi. The robbery was committed on Wednesday, but the FIR registered stated that only Rs 30 lakh were stolen, sources said.

‘Constable Parwinder and Head Constable Umeed, posted at outer Delhi’s Kanjhawla police station, were arrested for robbery. They had hatched the plan to rob a wire manufacturing company’s cashier with the help of a driver of the company. They committed the crime by introducing themselves as special cell officers,’ said sources in the Crime Branch.

They said the cops were identified and arrested on the basis of their physical appearances. Parwinder and Umeed allegedly introduced themselves as special cell sleuths and told the cashier and his driver that they would be arrested soon for dealing in Hawala money. The cashier at that time was carrying around Rs 3 crore and going towards Old Delhi, in an Alto car.

‘The cashier was going from his employer’s house in Sector 44 in Noida to Old Delhi. He was travelling in his Alto and was moving towards Geeta Colony when two men in a SUV overtook his car and asked him to stop,’ said a police officer.

While one man sat next to the driver, ordering him to move towards the special cell office on Lodhi Road, the other accused sat on the rear seat. A third accused drove the SUV behind the victim’s car. They asked the victim to stop near Geeta Colony flyover, transferred the money to the SUV and ordered the victim to drive on.

After moving for a while, the two robbers finally handed over the Alto key to the cashier and drove off towards north Delhi in their SUV.

Now the crime branch officials have subjected them to sustained interrogation and trying to know about their involvement in previous robbery cases.

The accused cops got the information about the employee having a large amount of cash from a former employee of the company, who has been identified as Naresh.

He, however, is yet to be arrested, said sources.

When contacted, Deputy commissioner of police [crime], refused to comment on the matter. He only stated that the case is under investigation.
