Cops solve ‘fake’ kidnapping case of two-year-old girl

Delhi Police claimed to have solved a case of fake kidnapping of a two-year-old girl with the help of CCTV footage in North-west Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar area. Police said that the woman left her daughter at a relative’s place to frame her husband in a false case to win over their daughter’s custody in the court litigation. “The apparent motive of the woman was to implicate her husband in the kidnapping charge and retain her daughter’s custody,” said Vijay Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-west). Police said that the girl was recovered from one of her relative’s house in Jahangirpuri.

According to the police, on August 26, a woman made a call to the PCR alleging that her two-year-old daughter was kidnapped from the Friday market in Swaroop Nagar while she had gone there to but groceries. Based on the woman’s statement, police registered a case and initiated investigation.

“During investigation, the family alleged that they do not have the picture of the minor girl. The police team somehow obtained the picture from neighbours. Digging deeper into the profile of the girl’s family, police stumbled upon the fact that the woman and her husband are in dispute over the custody of their daughter,” shared an investigating officer. Further investigation into the case led cops to the CCTV footage in which the woman was alone when she went to the market. This was contradictory to her version that she had gone to the market with her daughter, added the officer.
