Cops clueless in 4-year-old’s rape case

Even after two days a four-year-old girl was raped in North-west Delhi’s Keshav Puram area, the police have failed to make an arrest. However, they said that the girl and her family have given some clues about the accused.

According to a source, the victim’s family told the police that the accused was known to them and they lived in the same area.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West) Vijay Singh said: “We have identified the accused and a manhunt is on to nab him.” He added the police have detained some suspects.

The victim’s family alleged that she was brutally assaulted and there are bite marks on her face and private parts. Also, there was a deep cut around her neck as if she was attacked with a knife, they said.

Police said that some “bite” marks were found on the child – the only evidence in the case. The DCP said its mould has been sent for examination.

A case under sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been registered.

An investigating official said the culprit must be known to the victim as the place she was taken to is 500 metres from her residence. The official, requesting anonymity, said the area near the railway track, where the child was found, is crowded during the evening and it is almost impossible for an unknown person to take a victim to that place.

Meanwhile, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal met the child at the hospital. “Visited the little girl, her condition can’t be described. Horrific. Her parents are extremely poor. When will this heinous crime stop in Delhi (sic),” she tweeted.

“In 2014, only nine accused were convicted in Delhi in crime against women. Can you imagine! Tabhi to Delhi <g data-gr-id="39">mei</g> <g data-gr-id="37">kisi</g> ko darr <g data-gr-id="38">nahi</g> hai (That’s why no one is scared in Delhi),” Maliwal tweeted.
