Cops clueless about main conspirator

Even after almost two months of ongoing investigation in the Uzbek woman murder case, Delhi Police have failed to arrest the main conspirator, who has been identified as an Uzbekistan national and was the main person behind her murder. However, the contract killer was nabbed by the police on Monday.

On September 26, a missing complaint was filed at South Delhi’s Kotla Mubarakpur police station by an auto driver who was known to the victim, identified as Shakhnoza Shukurova. Later, in October the FIR was converted into an abduction case and since then the case was being investigated by the Special Task Force (STF) of South District.

During the investigation, the police have detained more than a dozen people who were close to Shukurova. According to call details, one Gagan Deep was detained and during intensive interrogation he confessed his involvement in the murder. He told the police that he was hired by one Naaz, who is alleged to be a close friend of Shukurova.

Further, during the investigation it came to light that there was a cold war between the two women over some monetary issue.

He told the police that differences cropped out between the two over a financial dispute involving Rs 8 lakh and on September 24, Naaz called her to Paharganj where Naaz and Gagan were waiting. They took her in the car and offered her a drink laced with sedatives.

“A heated argument took place between them and Shukurova refused to pay back Rs 8 lakh. Naaz then instructed Gagan to kill her as she fell unconscious. They then took the body to Samalkha area in Haryana and burnt her body by pouring petrol on her and the both managed to escape,” Gagan told the cops.

The next day, Samalkha police found the body and tried to establish her identity but to no avail. To complicate things further, they cremated the body.

“After he confessed his involvement and revealed the name of the main conspirator, teams have been formed to look for the whereabouts of Naaz, who is alleged to be a resident of South Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area. Raids were carried out at her residence but the house was found locked. Her mobile phone is also switched off and according to the telecom operators the number has been switched off since a month,” a police official privy to the investigation said.
