Cops bust gang of cheats who duped people on pretext of bonus on insurances

Delhi Police busted a gang of cheats who conned several senior citizens across India on the pretext of providing them bonus on their existing insurance policies. Investigators said that the arrested accused identified as Pankaj Nayak, Rohit Kumar Mishra, Manish Thakur and Vishal Verma, posed as RBI and Income Tax officials to entice the gullible senior citizens.

Police said that an 82-year-old retired CPWD engineer complained that he had been duped of Rs 80 lakh by a man who offered him a letter of huge bonus of Rs 1.30 crore on his existing insurance police.

Once the Maurya Enclave police station received the complaint, the case was transferred to the special staff of the North-west district. Based on technical surveillance, police traced one Ankur, who worked at the receptionist of the tour operating firm run by the accused.

On September 22, police arrested one of the accused.

During sustained interrogation, the accused revealed that they had worked in the firms ‘Davis Club’ and ‘Dreamland Developers’ which were closed in the year 2015 due to complaints of cheating. While working in the said firm they learnt the modus operandi of cheating on the pretext of bonus of insurance policies.
