Cops bust child trafficking racket, three arrested

Police have busted a child trafficking racket from a house at Balarampur in Purulia and rescued three children from the house. Three persons including a woman were arrested for allegedly running an inter-state child trafficking racket.

After starting an investigation into the mysterious disappearance of an eight-month-old baby from a hospital in Tomluk, police came to know from their reliable sources that the child was taken to Balarampur. Acting on a tip off, a joint force of the two district police raided the house where they found three children including the eight-month-old baby who was taken from a Tomluk hospital.

Police said that few days ago an eight-month-old baby girl was stolen the hospital following which the family members of the baby lodged a complaint in a police station. On the basis of the complaint the police started an investigation and came to know that children had been stolen from the area earlier also and a trafficking racket was operational in the area. After conducting a thorough enquiry police came to know about the modus operandi of the racket.

Interrogating the accused the police came to know that the group had trafficked some children into other states before. The police then inquired about the other members involved in the racket. They also tried to know the identity of the other two children who were rescued from their hide-out in Balarampur. The other baby who was stolen from the hospital had been handed over to her family members. Police are yet to ascertain the whereabouts of children sent by the accused.
