Cops arrest rape accused who faked death to escape

A man, who jumped bail and later produced a fake death certificate to avoid punishment in a rape case, was arrested from Jaipur, police said on Monday.

The arrested have been identified as Subhash.

Subhash was arrested in 2007 in connection with a rape case in Kapashera and was remaned to judicial custody. Later, he got bail but never appeared before court.

‘He stopped appearing in the court and the sureties also deposited the surety amount in the court due to his non-appearance. Subsequently, a death certificate of the accused was produced in the trial court by relatives with a declaration that accused who had gone to Nepal after bail had died there,’ police said.

It was also said that he was cremated there.

‘The theory projected by the relatives of the accused appeared to be concocted. The court then ordered verification of the death certificate in 2010. A police team carried out detailed verification, contacted a number of relatives and also met a number of people where the accused and his family had resided.

‘During this exercise, it came to notice that the family of the accused comprising his mother and brother had vacated their house in Jhajjar. The mother was traced in Churu of Rajasthan and brother Virendar found living with his wife in Hari Nagar,’ A K Ojha, Deputy Commissioner of Police (south-west), said.

Subhash was traced to Jaipur on Sunday where he was living under a new identity Monu. He was brought to Delhi today and a court send him to judicial custody.
