Cops arrest 152 delinquents in state-wide crackdown to curb anti-social activities

The police arrested 152 persons by conducting special raids in North Dinajpur to check anti-social activities in the district.

The raids were conducted on Saturday at different parts of the district.

Policemen from all the police stations raided the gambling dens and places where spurious liquor was sold. During the raid, the police recovered a huge amount of spurious liquor and narcotics substances.

The police damaged several gambling dens and picked up all the prime accused who used to run the dens.

Considering this to be one of the biggest steps ever in the district to curb anti-social activities, the rank and file of the district police felt that the rate of crime would go down drastically if such raids continue for at least one week.

The police conducted raids at places including Kaliaganj, Hemtabad and Karandighi.

It may be mentioned that on July 18, 10,515 people were arrested during a state-wide raid including 45 people who were arrested only from Rajarhat area in the past few days on charges of demanding extortion money.

The raid was conducted as Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee directed action against those who unnecessarily harass people.

The raids were conducted at the hideouts of the criminals while the people against whom there were specific complaints, were arrested acting on tip-offs. Firearms, ammunition, bombs, illegal firecrackers, illicit liquor and narcotics substances were seized during the raids.

The arrests of so many people who were allegedly involved with “illegal activists” had left a message that helped in improving the law and order situation in the state. On the same day, total 10,900 people were prosecuted in the state on charges of violating traffic norms and the figure also include the cases in which people were booked for riding motorbikes without wearing helmets.
