Cop hit by truck, dies in hospital

A Delhi Police constable working in the 4th Battalion of the DAP succumbed to his injuries when an over-speeding truck rammed into his motorcycle in East Delhi’s Anand Vihar area on Thursday night.

According to the police, the deceased constable has been identified as Suresh Kumar (40). The incident took place at around 12.30 am on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday when the constable was returning from Anand Vihar Inter State Bus Terminal and was heading towards his house in Shalimar Garden in Ghaziabad.

Police said that the accident happened between Ghazipur and the Anand Vihar area. Locals informed the police and Kumar was rushed to the Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Friday.

According to the police, the driver of the over-speeding truck fled from the spot after the incident.
“A case has been registered under Sections 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way) and 304A (Causing death by negligence) of the IPC at the Ghazipur police station against the errant truck driver. We have identified the truck. It belongs to a person in Ghaziabad. We will make arrest soon,” said a senior police official. 

In a separate incident, a 22-year-old girl was killed while the pillion woman rider was critically injured after a speeding Toyota Innova car hit their scooty from behind on the BRT on Thursday evening. The accused fled away from the spot.

The deceased has been identified as Sunaina who was declared dead on arrival by the hospital staff of AIIMS Trauma Center, whereas, the condition of Neha (21) is stated to be critical. According to the eye-witness, the duo were moving towards Greater Kailash via BRT and in the mid-way, near Ambedkar Nagar, a speeding Innova car hit their scooty from behind and the duo fell on the road. The accused ran away soon after the accident.
