Cop held for misbehaving with EDMC woman councillor

A drunk Delhi Police constable allegedly manhandled a woman councillor of the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC), while she was on her way to home in the Pandav Nagar area on Friday night. The constable has been arrested.

The incident took place on Friday around 10 pm when the councillor was going on a cycle rickshaw. “A constable identified as Rajjat approached her on a bike and stopped the rickshaw and started abusing her. The accused constable is currently deputed for the security of a senior Union minister,” said a police officer.

According to the victim, when she resisted, the constable allegedly twisted her wrist and passed obscene comments. He also broke her bangles due to which she received injuries and started bleeding.

After the constable ran away, she made a call to the Police control room, and a team reached the spot.

“A case under IPC section 354 A (sexual harassment), 323 (assault) 341 (wrongful restraint) and 509 (intending to insult the modesty of any women) has been registered on the basis of the complaint. The accused policeman was arrested on the same night. Meanwhile, we have ordered thorough investigation in the case,” the police officer said.

During the investigation, the police learnt that four years ago, the constable was transferred, after the councillor had complained about his alleged corruption practices with local vendors to senior police officials.
