Cop dies in fire accident

A 49-year-old Delhi police assistant sub-inspector (ASI) was suffocated to death in his residence in Mansarovar Park in north-east Delhi. On late Sunday night, fire broke out due to short circuit at the ground floor of his residence.

According to the police, the incident took place at around 12.15 am in a house in Mandoli road of Ramnagar. The deceased has been identified as Manoj Gaur who lives along with his family on the first and second floors of the house.

On the ground floor there was a boutique from where the fire started. ‘The cause of the fire was a minor short circuit that began from an electronic appliance but soon engulfed the entire ground floor,’ he added.

At 12.45 am, the fire department reached the spot with two fire tenders and took control over the fire.

But by then, Manoj Gaur who had rushed to the second floor in panic to rescue himself,  got stuck inside and suffocated to death.
