Controversy over Matang Singh and Aniruddha Bahal’s security cover

Many leaders have already started questioning the credibility of these two persons and are asking on what grounds they were given security cover.
‘It is unfortunate that these people are getting such facilities only because they serve the Congress dynasty. Matang Singh who was involved in corruption cases is now enjoying security cover. It’s a mockery of democracy, Also, why does Aniruddha Bahal need security cover? If I write something against Narendra Modi, will I also be treated as VIP? It’s a shame,’ a senior BJP leader said.
Matang held a position in the cabinet of prime minister P V Narshima Rao. However, he was suspended from the Congress a decade ago. He was re-inducted into the party a couple of years ago.
During Saradha chit fund scam, company chairman Sudipta Sen in his letter to CBI mentioned: ‘Matang Singh has taken Rs 28 crore from us in his various accounts, Finally, he has given 50 per cent shares of NE Bangla (a media channel) but recently, through Rajesh Bajaj, a businessman from Guwahati, a CEO of NE Assam has negotiated with Matang Singh and cancelled the agreement of the shareholdings and issued cheques of Rs 28 crore. All are post-dated cheques spanning a period of 2 years.’
Surprisingly, the questionable ‘Snoopgate’ was so firm – exposed by Cobrapost – that even after two months, the union home minister could not find a retired judge to probe the matter. It was learnt that few judges were approached by the government to take up the assignment, but all of them are said to have turned down the offer. Sources said both Bahal and Matang are currently enjoying Y-plus security. They were granted security through CRPF personnel.
