Construction worker dead, three injured as balcony collapses

A 45-year-old labourer was killed, while three others were left injured, when part of a balcony of a four-storey building collapsed in Central Delhi’s West Patel Nagar area on Saturday afternoon.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Vinod while the injured labourers are Sant Ram (20), Tinku (22) and Chhotu (22).Sources said that the incident took place at 
around 12.45pm at the K block area of West Patel Nagar when balcony of the first, second and third floor of the four-storey which was being renovated allegedly collapsed.

Once a part of the third floor balcony fell, the balconies of the first and second floors which were also under construction collapsed leaving the three youth injured.

Vinod, and the other injured labourers who were working on the balcony fell after part of the third floor balcony collapsed on them.

Locals present at the site raised an alarm and informed the police and the fire department.

According to the fire department official, three to four fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Meanwhile, a team of Delhi Police rushed the injured to a nearby hospital. However, due to excessive medical problems, Vinod was rushed to Lady Harding Hospital where he was declared brought dead. Meanwhile, the injured labourers are undergoing treatment.

A senior police investigator said that they have registered a case under Section 304A (causing death due to negligence) at the Patel Nagar police station against the contractor, M Praveen. Probe has been initiated.”

Further investigation is underway.
