Constable nabbed for extortion bid

A Delhi Police constable posted in the Third Battalion of the Delhi Armed Police (DAP) was arrested for committing robbery at gun point near Majnu ka Tila area of North Delhi on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. The police have recovered cash and a country made pistol from him.

According to the police, the accused has been identified as Rajesh Kumar. The incident took place at around 3.30 am when Rajesh stopped a truck driver on Ring Road heading towards Majnu ka Tila and asked him to get down. 

He then threatened the truck driver with a country made pistol and took away Rs 1700 from him.
Meanwhile, a police team on night duty patrolling the area caught the constable extorting money from the truck driver and arrested him.

According to a senior police official, departmental enquiry has been initiated and appropriate action will be taken against the accused police constable. 

A case has been registered against Rajesh Kumar under relevant sections of the Arms Act and other sections of the IPC at the Timarpur police station.
