Constable beaten up in Malda during night patrol

A police constable was beaten up while conducting night patrolling at English Bazar area in Malda on Tuesday night.

English Bazar police station had received complaints from the transporters and local businessmen that some miscreants were extorting money from the vehicles plying on the National Highway 34. After receiving complaint a 7 member team of police headed by ASI Ansarul Haq was patrolling at Pias Bari more when they saw that a vehicle was standing at the middle of the road and some miscreants were extorting money from the driver of the vehicle. 

When the police chased them, the miscreants overpowered the police force and beat up Tranjit Kumar a police constable. The culprits tried to hit on his head with a bamboo stick but Kumar raised his hands to save his head. The miscreants also open fired at the police men but none of them were injured in the incident. The injured police constable was taken to Malda Medical College and Hospital.

After conducting raids at various places police have arrested 12 dreaded criminal in this connection so far. Police suspect that they were involved in various crimes in the area. They have also seized a car which was being used by the miscreants.
