Congress concerned over law and order situation in UP

Former Union minister and All India Congress committee(AICC) spokesperson Shakil Ahmed  expressed concern over the alleged deteriorating law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh, here on Sunday. He raised his finger on the mysterious death of terror accused Khalid Mujahid in judicial custody recently.

‘The law and order situation in UP is very bad and it seems that there is no effort by the government to improve it,’ he said.  Claiming that the crime rate in Delhi is lower than Uttar Pradesh, he said the figures of the national crime record bureau(NCRB) were enough proof about the law and order situation in UP.

Addressing a press conference here, Ahmed said the death of Khalid in judicial custody was fishy.  ‘How can the chief minister claim that the death was due to illness before the post-mortem of the body,’ he questioned.

Commenting on the Congress view on whether the terror accused, if they are innocent will be let-off, the former Union minister ‘In Karnataka assembly elections, the Congress manifesto too promised to review the cases of innocents, women and children lodged under terror cases. We have promised to set up a commission under a retired high court judge to review cases and set up fast track court for speedy trial.’
