Congress and CPI(M)’s one-point agenda is to attack me: Mamata

“If it is their democratic right to assassinate my character, then it is also my democratic right to seek answer from them,” she said while addressing a rally in support of party nominees here on Thursday afternoon.

“Congress and CPI(M)’s work is to criticise me and spread canards against me. Taking advantage of my sobriety they sometimes hit below the belt. So far I have kept quiet. I want an answer from them and I believe people will take revenge democratically by voting against them,” she remarked.

Criticising the Election Commission she said CPI(M), BJP and Congress were approaching them by making false allegations. On the basis of such allegations administrative and police officers were transferred. Citing an example she said, “Just on the basis of allegations, the former commissioner of Kolkata Police was removed.” The EC is going overboard. There are elections in other states but only Bengal is witnessing seven day election.

The officers are changed without any rhyme and reason and 900 companies of central forces have been deployed. This has been done on the basis of allegations by the opposition and most of the allegations are false,”  she said.

She said CPI(M) which had unleashed a reign of terror in the past 34 years. “Neither the EC nor the Congress leaders in Delhi say anything when CPI(M) looted vote in the later years. We have seen how elections were conducted in the past 34 years. People did not have any freedom of speech and were not allowed to vote. It is ironical that CPI(M) is now talking about democracy,” she maintained.

She said there had been a demand to arrest Anubrata Mondol, “ Why Anubrta should be arrested? Arrest Biman, Sujan and Selim for inciting people,” she remarked.

She maintained that leaders from Delhi were coming to the state and making big promises while in reality they have reduced the money allotted to the state government under various schemes. She urged voters not to cast a single vote in favour of Congress, CPI(M) or BJP who were working with a political vendetta. “People will give a befitting reply and will defeat these people. I will never surrender and will maintain my stand of working for the masses. We have taken several schemes that have helped the people particularly students, women and those who are economically challenged,” she said.

She apologised for holding the meeting in the afternoon in excessive heat, “EC officials will never go out of their air conditioned chambers. They ignored our demand of holding election in winter,” she said.
