Cong releases video ‘showing’ Modi with hawala-tainted Fatta

Soon after the Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi accused senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel of being involved in a hawala racket, the Congress on Monday hit back in turn accusing Modi of having links with a hawala operator.
The Congress claimed that the Enforcement Directorate of Surat and Ahmedabad had unearthed a Rs 700 crore hawala scam after conducting raids at hawala operator Afroz Fatta’s home. Claiming Fatta to be a ‘well known BJP supporter and a protege of Modi’ Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said, ‘The ED raids were conducted at the premises of Afroz Fatta who is seen at many event of Modi and and even at Modi’s residence.’
‘What is the nature of relationship, connection and protection offered by Modi to Fatta, the alleged hawala kingpin who features in a number of photos along with the Gujarat chief minister in various social and political functions?’ asked Surjewala.
The Congress accused Modi of having underworld links, questioning his links with underworld don Bablu Srivastava. ‘What is the connection with (underworld don) Bablu Srivastava? And how is he seeking a stake in the money being channelised through the hawala racket? Do Modi and other BJP leaders have a connection with the underworld criminals? The people of the country would like to know,’ said Surjewala.
‘Whether Narendra Modi will agree to submit himself to an independent probe through an agency outside Gujarat to determine his connection or absence thereof to this hawala racket of great magnitude. If he has nothing to hide, he should submit himself to an independent probe,’ he added.
The Congress distributed photographs and a CD that allegedly show Modi’s links with Fatta, just a day after the BJP released a video to target Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law Robert Vadra on his alleged land deals.
BJP dodges Cong’s CD googly, exposes Fatta with Azharuddin
New Delhi: Hours after Congress released a CD purportedly showing Narendra Modi in pictures with hawala accused Afroz Fatta, BJP hit back by coming out with pictures showing the same man with Congress MP Azharuddin. BJP legislator Harsh R Sanghavi brought out a picture showing Fatta with cricketer-turned-politician Azharuddin and questioned Congress on it.
‘Afroz Phatta with Congressi Leader @azhrudeen will Congress answer what’s there connection with him?,’ Sanghavi tweeted.
His tweet, along with the picture of the two, was retweeted by Modi’s confidante and BJP leader Amit Shah but deleted the same from his twitter account soon thereafter. Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala came out with the CD claiming Fatta to be a ‘well known BJP supporter and a protege of Modi’.
