Cong protests against ‘harassment’ of vendors

The Delhi Congress on Thursday staged protests against “harassment” of street vendors and hawkers by the AAP government, civic bodies and the police, and demanded implementation of th4e Street Vendors Act, 2014. Some street vendors also took part in the protests held at the offices of three municipal corporations and headquarters of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) by the Delhi Rehri-Patri Congress. City Congress chief Ajay Maken, who attended the demonstrations at Civil Lines, Green Park, Rajouri Garden and other places, accused the government and various agencies, including the police and MCDs, of "harassing" vendors and "illegally" evicting them. "Due to the harassment by the AAP government, Delhi Police, three BJP-ruled corporations and the NDMC, over 5 lakh vendors are finding it extremely difficult to carry out their trade in the city," Maken said.
