Cong leaders protest over Ggn power tariff hike

A recent price hike of electricity rates per unit in Gurgaon led to a demonstration headed by Ashok Talwar, a senior Congress leader. The demonstration was staged by hundreds of protesters outside the mini secretariat at Rajiv Chowk.

According to the information received, the rate was hiked in the first week of October by Rs 2-3 per unit. This hike could generate a bill of Rs 2,500 whereas, with the earlier rates it would generate Rs 1,500 per month. This demonstration was against the BJP party leaders who had promised to give electricity to the Millennium City at a feasible rate.

“We are here to protest against the price hike done by the BJP and if we do not fight entire Haryana will face this hike,” Talwar said asking BJP to roll back their decision.

Even though BJP has criticised RajKumar Saini’s participation in the protest, Saini, ignoring the internal tensions said: “This is my personal choice and I will follow if it’s for the right cause.”

Apart from the hike issue, Talwar also talked about the internal politics going on in the electricity board.
