Conduct of cops should be high: Pranab

President Pranab Mukkherjee on Friday said the conduct of a police officer should always be high as it is the reflection of the entire government machinery in front of the common people.

The President said this while interacting with a group of 133 Indian Police Service (IPS) trainees, including 20 female officers, as they called on him at Rashtrapati Bhavan here.

‘Addressing the officer trainees, the President stated that they would face many challenges in the service of their motherland. These included the challenges pertaining to protecting social harmony, maintaining national integrity and combating divisive forces.

‘He said that their job is multifarious. He advised them to always remember that their conduct and behaviour is a reflection not only of the police force but is actually a projection of the entire administration before the common people,’ a Rashtrapati Bhavan statement said quoting the President.

Mukherjee said the ‘forms of terrorism have changed and dimensions of crime have increased. Cyber crimes have also become a big threat. The police forces must therefore be well equipped to face these challenges effectively.’

He wished the officer trainees success in their careers and asked them to perform their duty with professionalism, competence and dedication as expected of them.
