Complete enrollment of voters within April 10-15: EC to Cooch Behar DM

The Election Commission (EC) has instructed the District Magistrate of Cooch Behar to complete the enrollment of voters within April 10 to 15. 

This is the first time the people living in the enclaves that had been included in the Indian territories will cast their votes since the Independence. The EC had already started the processes of delimitations of the constituencies to conduct the elections. 

For this, EC had published a draft delimitation order and initiated the process of conducting the elections in various places in Cooch Behar where the enclaves are situated. According to a senior election official, there are around 14,864 people living in 51 enclaves falling under three parliamentary constituencies of Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, Alipurduar. The Commission had already started the process of enlisting the names of voters in all the enclaves.  

The EC started the process of delimitations of the assembly constituencies under which these enclaves are situated. 

The commission is looking into how many of the enclave dwellers are the voters.
