Colours and Darkness
The cast and crew of the period drama Rang Rasiya hosted a special screening of the movie on Saturday at PVR Ambience Mall, Gurgaon, in aid of Mahindru Foundation, a Trust dedicated to eradication of curable blindness. The Special Screening was followed by a Live Musical Concert, featuring Sunidhi Chauhan and Kailash Kher, in association with Gurgaon Police, seeking to raise awareness and funds for Eye Donations.
Rang Rasiya is an epic film directed by Ketan Mehta and presented by Jayantilal Gada of PEN Films. Produced by Deepa Sahi and Aanand Mahendroo, and co-produced by Dhaval Jayantilal Gada, Kushal Kantilal Gada and Reshmaa Kadakia, the film is based on the life and times of 19th Century based legendary painter Raja Ravi Verma.
Known for critically acclaimed films like Bhavni Bhavai, Mirch Masala and Mangal Pandey, Ketan Mehta has returned with yet another period drama where the iconic role of the Indian painter is played by Randeep Hooda and Nandana Sen has essayed the character of his muse Sugandha.
Through this initiative, the Rang Rasiya team has aimed to create awareness on treating curable blindness in India To promote the cause and encourage others to pledge their eyes, the team of the film, including Randeep Hooda, Nandana Sen, Ketan Mehta, Deepa Sahi and Aanand Mahendroo, the singers and associates have also supported this noble cause by pledging their eyes.
Ashok Mahindru, Managing Trustee, Mahindru Foundation said, ‘The cause of the blind is a very moving one. Imagine not experiencing life for a single day. It is difficult to imagine that nearly 1 crore 80 lakh people in India are blind. The tragedy is that 80 percent of the blind population can be cured. But because of lack of awareness and poor donation rate, they live in darkness and are deprived of the joys of life.’
Actor Nandana Sen further added, ‘We are proud to pitch in for the cause of eye donations. The movie Rang Rasiya is all about a Painter and the vibrant colours of life. So it is only natural for us to help someone experience the colours of life. We have personally pledged our eyes and appeal to all to come forward and pledge their eyes for this noble cause.’
