Collision with friend’s scooter leaves 2 dead

Two persons succumbed to death and one was severely injured after a motorcycle collided with a scooter at North-West Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar area near a traffic intersection point on Sunday late night.

According to police, the two deceased have been identified as Sarabjeet Singh (26) and Lakhvinder Singh (25), both residents of Punjab. The injured has been identified as Manjeet (23). Sarabjeet and <g data-gr-id="39">Lahvinder</g> were on their motorcycle which collided with Manjeet’s scooter at the traffic signal near Haqiqat Nagar. The duo used to stay in a rented accommodation in Mukherjee Nagar and was taking coaching for competitive examinations.

The incident took place at around 1 am in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.

A PCR call was made and police officials rushed to the spot and took the injured to Babu Jagjivan Ram hospital where Sarabjeet and Lakhvinder died and Manjeet sustained critical injuries.

A senior police official said: “we are yet to ascertain where the youths were heading towards when the accident took place. Further details can only be known after Manjeet is declared fit for his statement to be recorded.” A case under relevant sections of the IPC has been registered against unknown persons at the Mukherjee Nagar police station and further investigation is on. 

Meanwhile, Special Staff of North-West Delhi Police have busted a gang which had been preparing and selling cheap illicit liquor in scotch bottles of famous brands in various parts of the city. The accused father-son duo have been arrested along with a scrap dealer. The accused have been identified as Jai Prakash Chawla, Sumit and Ashok <g data-gr-id="38">Santra</g>.

On August 27, the North-West Delhi Police received a tip-off that a person was travelling with <g data-gr-id="44">huge</g> quantity of illicit liquor. The vehicle was to reach Pitampura via the road near VIPS College at around 8 pm. A trap was laid and at around 8.20 pm, a  silver-coloured Wagon-R, coming from Mukarba Chowk was intercepted. The driver and the co-passenger were apprehended. As many as 60 bottles of famous whisky and scotch bottles were found with illegal liquor in it. A case has been registered under sections of the Excise Act at Maurya Enclave police station. During further investigation, one more accused Ashok was also held.
