Cold Capital feels a shiver!

Delhi and NCR continue to be in the grip of chilling winter as the minimum temperature plunged below 6 degrees Celsius in several areas. The lowest minimum temperature in Delhi on Friday was recorded 4.4 degree Celsius at Ayanagar in south Delhi and lowest maximum temperature was recorded at 15.0 degree Celsius at Indirapuram in Ghaziabad.

The minimum temperature of the city recorded at Safdarjung, which is taken as average for Delhi, was 6.3 degrees Celsius but it was one notch below normal. The maximum temperature at Safdarjung was 19 degrees Celsius which was two notches below normal. The seasons minimum at Safdarjung was 5.9 degrees Celsius on 23 December and maximum temperature on that day was recorded at 18.7 degrees Celsius.

But Delhi and NCR region shows significant variations in both minimum and maximum temperatures. At Ayanagar, the maximum temperature was recorded at 18.4 degrees Celsius while minimum was 4.4 degrees Celsius. The ridge area in Delhi recorded 15.4 degrees Celsius but minimum at 6.4 degrees Celsius. In NCR region, Gurgaon recorded lowest minimum temperature with 5.5 degrees Celsius while Indirapuram adjoining to East Delhi recorded 15.0 degrees Celsius on Friday. The maximum temperatures in Gurgaon and Indirapuram were 18.3 and 15.0 degrees Celsius.

‘The maximum and minimum temperature on Saturday would be around 19 and 6 degrees with fog in the morning and mist thereafter,’ said a senior weather scientist.
