Coast Guard evacuates injured seaman aboard ship near Mumbai

The Coast Guard on Tuesday coordinated medical evacuation of a 24-year-old Indian deck cadet onboard the bulk carrier MV Silver Star, a Panama Flag vessel anchored off Revadanda, about 45 km south of Mumbai.

The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre received a telephonic message late Monday evening from the ship, requesting evacuation of cadet Patrick Kennedy, who had suffered serious injury in the right hand from a hammer while working on the deck, a Coast Guard release stated. The cadet was in pain and had been advised for evacuation by the Company Medical Officer. Under normal circumstances, seamen are not permitted to disembark or to join the ship at Revadanda anchorage.
