CMCH’s Mother and Child Hub nears completion

The proposed ‘Mother and Child Hub’ at Calcutta Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) will likely to be thrown open within the next few months as the construction works has been completed already.

According to a senior official of the state Health department it can be made operational as the work has been completed. This is the first ‘Mother and Child Hub’ in the city that will come at CMCH.

Two such hubs have already come up in Nadia and Murshidabad already. They were already inaugurated. This is a joint venture initiative of the Centre and the state government under which the hub would be developed like a multi-superspeciality hospital.

According to the sources, the hub will be equipped with all the modern facilities as a result of which the patients will be able to get various health services under one roof. The new building which will house the hub will have Cardiology, Plastic Surgery and Neurosurgery at the ground floor while the hub will be situated on the seventh floor.

In the proposed mother and child hub there will be separate critical care units for the babies. There will be a special task force to monitor the functions and will ensure that the babies are getting the best treatment. The task forces will be comprised of the doctors from the Gynecology and Obstetrics department.

There are separate hospitals for the children in the city but the CMCH has to take tremendous pressure of baby patients. Many patients have been brought from various parts of North Kolkata and the districts. The new mother and child hub will immensely benefit the patients.
