CM vows to push ahead with development agenda

Agriculture and Industry sectors will be given top-most priority in the next five years by the Trinamool Congress.

“We work and do not make false promises,” she said while releasing the manifesto.

Banerjee said the main thrust of the State government in the next five years would be on IT and IT- related industries. It will make schemes and policies to facilitate such industries on a priority basis. The State government will set up an industrial investment fund to promote and regulate industrialisation. The State government will also encourage private investment in industrial parks.

Mamata Banerjee said small and medium industries would be given a big push. The Centre will set up an institute of handloom technology at Shantinur in Nadia where weaving technology will be taught. This will help resurrect the handloom industry. The reality show Egiye Bangla has received kudos from all quarters, she pointed out. The State government will introduce Tant Sathi project where looms would be handed over to  weavers. It also proposes to set up garment hubs and textile parks in the state in the near future. Attempts will be made to set up Biswa Bangla stores in different countries to showcase handloom and other items made by artisans and craftsmen in the state.

Hitting out at the “unholy and unethical alliance” of the Congress and CPI(M), she said that her government had worked under tremendous financial crisis as it had to repay the interest of loans taken by the erstwhile Left Front government. “No work was carried out by the Left Front government in 34 years and at the same time it took loans and my government had to pay the interest.”

She said the only business of CPI(M) was to spread canards against her government. “From the morning till the night they spread canards against us. But that will not have any impact as people have seen whether we have  worked for them or not.”

She also added that after ruining the state for 34 years, where incidents like burning the monks and nuns of Anandamargis alive and killing of wage earners in Nanur and Netai took place under the sponsorship of the then state government, CPI(M) was now saying that law and order situation in West Bengal had deteriorated in the past four and a half years. “The torture that CPI(M) had inflicted on the common people is still very fresh in their minds and the people of the state give a befitting reply.”

Mamata Banerjee also said that the Trinamool Congress was committed to return land to Singur farmers once the proceedings in Supreme Court in this matter end. Banerjee said that the State government would continue to work for the poor people of the state. She dedicated the election manifesto to the people of the state and sought their blessings.
