CM meets K V Thomas over Food Security Bill

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday met union minister of state for food and public distribution K V Thomas to reportedly discuss the road map for implementing the Food Security Bill in the national capital.

UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi will roll out the bill on 20 August, birth anniversary of former prime minister Rajeev Gandhi.  Dikshit went to  Thomas’s office at approximately 1 pm in the afternoon and it is understood that the two discussed the implementation of the scheme in the national capital in a half-an-hour long meeting.

‘The plan is ready and we are counting the exact number of beneficiaries. As a token, 32 beneficiaries will get a card of confirmation for their enrolment for Food Security Bill,’ said a senior Delhi government officer.

Dikshit has told the union food minister about the Cabinet decision, which has approved the continuation of providing sugar to 3.64 lakh below poverty Line and Antyodaya Anna Yojana ration card holders through ration shops at subsidised rate of Rs 13.50 per kg even though the union government has stopped supplies following de-control of the sugar sector.
