CM meets agitating DTC staffers

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday held a meeting to discuss the issues concerning Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) employees, after DTC employees stopped work partially impacting bus services on 14 May.

The city government agreed that the welfare of the employees must be given priority as this is bound to ensure better functioning and better results in the organisation.

The meeting was also attended by Transport Minister, Arvinder Singh, Chief Secretary and P K Tripathi, Principal Secretary, Finance and Transport, apart from DTC representatives of employees.

Stressing upon the need of workers participation in DTC management, Dikshit stated that this would go a long way in early redressal of certain issues.

It was decided to constitute a committee under the Chairmanship of Principal Secretary, Finance, along with the Commissioner Transport, CMD, DTC, Labour Commissioner and representatives of employees.

The committee would examine the issues raised by the employees and submit its report along with recommendations. Apart from this, the Committee would also draw a road map for workers participation in DTC management.

Sources said, government after examining the recommendations will take suitable action in best interests of employees and the organisation as well.

Meanwhile, DTC employees raised demands for extension of certain welfare schemes such as medical facilities, uniform scheme of pension and regularisation of services of conductors and drivers on compassionate ground.

CM also decided to consider the cases of regularisation on compassionate ground against earmarked quota in this regard.

Earlier, commuters in several areas of the city faced hardship on Monday as a section of DTC employees stopped work. The strike, called by certain section of the employees in DTC's Millenium bus depot, affected services of around 300 buses.

The agitating employees did not allow these buses to leave the depot.

However, the services returned to normal in the afternoon after the employees held talks with the management.
