CM launches ‘green’ college building, defends FDI

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has said Foreign Direct Investment would produce around 50 lakh jobs for the educated youth in the years to come, and Delhi was the first state to accept this revolutionary policy.

‘FDI is not harmful for aam adami. Consumers will be relieved of the high profit being added to the cost by the traders as there will be a healthy competition benefiting the consumers. 40 per cent of unused food, grains, fruits and vegetables, which were earlier wasted, would be saved with introduction of FDI in retail as the number of cold storages will go up substantially.

‘Consumers would get quality goods at cheaper rates,’ said Dikshit while inaugurating the new green building of Maharaja Agrasen College at Vasundhra Enclave on Monday.

She said, ‘Those who are opposing entry of FDI in retail have nothing to do with the welfare of people. In fact, they are working against the interests of the nation.  They do not want to see influx of foreign exchange earning for our country and they even opposed introduction of computerisation by the then Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, stating that it would lead to unemployment. The introduction of computerisation brought a large number of opportunities of employment.’
