CM halts convoy to help injured man

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee got down from her car in the convoy and made all arrangements to take an injured person to the nearby health care centre.

Finding a man lying unattended after meeting with an accident near the Netaji Statue on the Indira Gandhi Sarani, the Chief Minister instructed the convoy to halt. 

She was returning after attending the programme of Utkarsha Bangla in Netaji Indoor Stadium.

She got down from the car and all the police officers and officials in other cars in the convoy also got down with her. 

Following her instructions they took the man in one of the cars and rushed him to the SSKM Hospital.

Police later came to know that the man Prosenjit Kundu is a resident of Entally area and his motorbike had skidded as he had lost control while taking a turn soon after another bike brushed passed his two-wheeler.

Pedestrians, who have witnessed the incident, said that it was not possible for them to the reach the spot where the accident took place as speeding vehicles were passing one after the other. 

The on-duty policemen had noticed Kundu when he fell from his bike. 

But before they could have crossed the road to help him, the Chief Minister’s convoy had approached.

“It was not known to me that it was Chief Minister’s convoy. I was surprised when I saw Banerjee coming out of one of the car. 

“She went to the man, who was writhing in pain, and gave instructions to policemen to help him out,” said Gopinath Sarkar, who had witnessed the incident.

Kundu received necessary treatment when taken to SSKM Hospital. His family members were informed by the police. 

They rushed to the hospital and thanked the Chief Minister for rescuing Kundu when he met with an accident. Police are also trying to find out that what had actually led to the accident.
