CM condemned for defending 'tainted' officer

On Wednesday, the last day of the session in the assembly, the Bharatiya Janata Party strongly criticised Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit for trying to insulate former NDMC chairman Parimal Rai against a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in implementation of a Commonwealth Games project by the civic agency.

Condemning Dikshit's action, MLA Karan Singh Tanwar said, 'Why was CM requesting home minister to stop CBI from the probe against him. There are so many cases against him and she was trying to defend him. This is highly objectionable. The action of the chief minister amounts to misuse of her office.'

MLA Kulwant Rana from Rithala Constituency also joined Tanwar and raised slogan, including 'shame on CM'.

Later Speaker of Delhi Assembly Yoganand Shastri ordered the removal of both the MLAs for using foul language and disrupting the assembly.

Earlier, Dikshit, in a letter, had sought home minister P Chidambaram's intervention to ensure that the CBI is not given permission in a 'haste' to probe the role of Rai, an IAS officer of 1985 batch, in the alleged irregularities in construction of NDMC's convention Centre in Connaught Place.

Parimal Rai was transferred to Goa last month.
