CM asks CPWD to draw up ‘green houses’ manual

Delhi chief minister  Sheila Dikshit on Friday asked the CPWD to come out with a manual to makes houses in the capital environment friendly.  ‘Green houses are the only answer to the fast-increasing power consumption in the capital, as these houses help in containing power consumption.
Green houses will provide a solution to the depleting natural resources such as power and underground water level.

The Chief Minister was speaking at the 159th CPWD Foundation Day Celebration at Vigyan Bhawan on Friday in the presence of the union minister of housing and urban poverty alleviation Dr Girija Vyas and others.
‘As population grows, as people have more money in their hands to spend, naturally they will be spending on items which are costly not only to themselves but costly to the sustainability of our environment,’ Dikshit said.

The Chief Minister said that while techniques like water harvesting, waste to energy and recycling are needed but the least expensive and perhaps least resisted measure towards sustainability is green buildings.
‘I would be grateful if CPWD could bring out manuals to make our houses and buildings “green”,’ Dikshit said. She added that simple measures like painting roofs of building could help in saving energy.

Dikshit said she had learnt the CPWD had started building from recycled material and added that while there was resistance to this idea, it must be given greater impetus. She lauded CPWD’s work during the Commonwealth Games.
