Class XII girl’s body found near railway tracks in Noapara

Mystery shrouds the death of a Class XII girl, whose body was recovered from near a railway track under Noapara police station in North 24-Parganas late Sunday night.

Police said that there were several injury marks on the body of the victim, Payel Das, a resident of Nabapally area in Palta.

The nature of the injuries suggests that she was killed by some person and her body was later dumped near the railway track. Her family members, however, alleged that the youth with whom she had a relationship killed her to take revenge after she refused to continue the relationship.

They told the police that the accused youth, Sanjib Bose, a resident of Noapara, had been threatening her with dire consequences since she had refused to go ahead with the relationship. He used to call up the victim numerous times at her house and threaten her.

Her family members were not in the house on Sunday, when the accused entered the house when the girl was alone around 8 pm. A quarrel broke out between the two, which soon turned into a scuffle.

The victim’s family members told police that the accused beat her up and this had resulted in fatal injuries to her, to which she succumbed and died.

The accused reportedly later took the body to the railway track situated nearby.

There were blood stains in the trail through which the accused dragged her body. Payel’s family members also alleged that police were trying to suppress the incident and telling them not to pursue the case further.

However, senior officers of the Barrackpore Commissionarate said that the matter is under investigation and a detailed investigation has been initiated. Meanwhile, the accused youth and his family members have been at large since the incident had taken place.
