Class X student’s death: Police yet to find any leads

Mystery shrouds the death of a class X student, whose body was found hanging from a tree at Muriganga area near Sagar in South 24-Parganas early on Tuesday morning.

Police suspect that the girl was raped, murdered and hanged from the tree.

A police officer said the girl went missing while she was returning after taking private tuition.

The family members initiated a search operation for the girl when she didn’t return till late night.

They went to the teacher’s house where she went to take private tuition. But the teacher informed that she had left his place with other students.

Her friends too had failed to provide any clue about the victim on Tuesday night.

The victim’s family members finally lodged a complaint with the police. They had also contacted all her relatives to know whether she went there. But they failed to get any information about her.

On Tuesday morning, some villagers found her body hanging from a tree at Muriganga area. Hundreds of people gathered in the area as soon as they came to know that the girl was murdered.

The villagers brought her body down from the tree. They didn’t allow the police to take her body for post-mortem while protesting against the incident.

The agitation continued for around three hours causing massive traffic congestion in the area.

The mob also put up a road block demanding arrest of the accused as early as possible. A huge contingent of police was deployed.

But they failed to bring the situation under control. Finally RAF was deployed and the body was taken away for autopsy.

Police spoke to some of the villagers to know whether they had seen anyone keeping a watch on the movement of the girl or there was anyone who used to disturb her.
