Class X student stabbed to death by classmate

A class X student was stabbed to death by one of his classmate when they went out for trekking in Darjeeling on Wednesday. The student succumbed to his injuries on Thursday night.

Police said the victim Subham Chetri was a student of a well known school in Darjeeling. The school authorities had taken the students of class X for trekking a few days ago. There was some problem between some of the students when they were trekking.

The trekking was undertaken under the guidance of a mountaineering institute in Darjeeling. Later an altercation broke out between two students when they were taking dinner on Wednesday. Suddenly one of the two students, who had an altercation, stabbed Chetri.

He stabbed him repeatedly and had managed to flee before anyone could have understood what had taken place.

Other students, who were also taking dinner, found Chetri falling unconscious and he was bleeding heavily.

Chetri, was a resident of Bijonbari, was taken to Siliguri Medical College and Hospital where he was admitted with severe injuries.

The school authorities have formed a committee to probe into the incident. The police are yet to arrest the accused.

The parents raised question on the security of the children during training and they also protest against the alleged medical negligence. The victim’s family members claimed that it would have been possible to save Chetri if the school authorities had taken steps for better treatment soon after the incident.

It is neither clear to the school authorities nor his friends that why the class X student suddenly stabbed Chetri with whom he had no enmity. Moreover, everyone in the school knew Chetri to be a quiet and a calm boy. No one had ever complaint the teachers or the school authorities about Chetri or his behavior in the past.

“He was a good student and his behaviour was also good. We cannot imagine that he had been stabbed by one of his classmates,” said a teacher.
