Class III student thrashed by teacher in Dum Dum

A Class III student from a private school in Dum Dum was allegedly beaten up by a school teacher after his pencil fell on the floor of class room.

The family members of the victim, Priyanshu Das later, lodged a complaint against the teacher at a local police station on the basis of which the police started an investigation.

The accused teacher Minati Saha denied the allegation. The victim, after reaching home told his parents that he was slapped on his face after he picked up a pencil which fell on the floor of the class room when Hindi class was going on. The incident had angered the accused so much that she slapped him on his face and later kicked him on his waist.

The school authorities have, however, sought apology from the victim’s family after the incident had triggered tension at the school after the guardians put up demonstration inside the school premises. After receiving the complaint, police went to the school and talked to the school authorities and the students in this regard. But the classes were suspended in the school following the incident. The Principal of the school appealed to the agitating guardians to stop demonstration.

The victim’s family members told the police that he fell down on the floor but she kept on hitting him. The teacher wanted to teach him a lesson as he bent down to pick up the pencil.

As she saw that the victim was picking up the pencil from the floor, she walked up to him and started beating him up. The victim was traumatised after being subjected to physical assault in front of the other fellow students. A probe has been initiated in this regard.

It may be mentioned that in last few months quite a few incidents of students being beaten up occurred in various schools.
