Class 11 student killed over love affair

In an incident of honour killing, a class 11 student was shot dead by a man on Saturday evening after he came to know that the boy had an affair with his daughter at Nakashipara in Nadia.

Police said the victim Sujauddin Seikh alias Sajrul went to meet the girl near her house. The girl, who is a class X student, went to meet him without informing her family members.

During interrogation, the girl told police that she had an affair with the boy and on Saturday he came to meet her behind her house. Her father Rafiqul Seikh was busy in some work when she went to the meet Sujauddin.

After searching for her in the entire house, the girl’s father came out of it and found that his daughter was speaking to Seikh at the back side of their house.

Rafiqul threatened Sujauddin saying that he would face dire consequences if he continues speaking to his daughter. But when the girl tried to make her father understand about their affair, Rafiqul took out a revolver and shot Sujauddin from a close range.

Hearing Sujauddin’s cry, local people rushed the spot and found him lying in a pool of blood and the accused was forcing her daughter to enter the house.

Local people also saw Rafiqul carrying a revolver. At the same time, Rafiqul’s daughter also claimed that her father had killed Sujauddin.

The matter was informed to police and the local residents took Sujauddin to Bethunadhori Hospital where he was declared brought dead. Police have arrested Rafiqul and he will be produced before a court on Monday.

The villagers also staged a demonstration demanding necessary action against the accused.

They alleged that Rafiqul had kept the entire village under his control.

His name had cropped up several times for being involved with various illegal activities since the period of the erstwhile Left Front government. He never wanted her daughter to get married with the Sujauddin as he used to consider himself to be one of the important persons in the village, said a villager.

According to psychologists, the accused used to suffer from superiority complex and it was the reason why he didn’t listen to his daughter.

It may be mentioned that earlier, two incidences of honour killing took place in the state.

The first incident had taken place on December 7, 2012 when a man had beheaded his daughter for having an affair and he walked up to Nadia police station from his residence carrying his daughter’s head.

In another incident in 2013, a youth and the girl who had an affair were murdered. Their bodies were found hanging from a tree.
