Clashes in Handwara again, none hurt

Handwara again witnessed clashes between locals and security forces on Thursday. However, no one was injured in the incident, police said.

Around 30-40 students of the Government Higher Secondary School, Handwara, assembled on the main chowk and protested against the recent incidents, a police official said. Some students pelted stones on the security forces deployed there resulting in clashes, he said. Later, the students were chased away by the forces, the official said, adding no one was injured.

Handwara in Kashmir’s Kupwara district was the epicentre of week-long unrest triggered by alleged molestation of a girl on April 12. Five civilians lost their lives and curfew-like restrictions were imposed in Handwara and several other parts of Kashmir in the protests.
