Civic police volunteer found dead

Mystery shrouds the death of a 25-year-old civic police volunteer whose body was found at a stone’s throw distance from Saltora police station in Bankura.

Police said the victim, Uday Mondal, was on-duty in the police station on Friday night.

At around 3 am on Saturday some of his colleagues found him lying unconscious under a tree near the police station. He was in his uniform.

They took him to Saltora Block Primary Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

The police initiated a probe in this connection but are yet to ascertain the exact reasons behind his death.

A police officer said that they were waiting for the autopsy report which was
crucial in this case as it would help them ascertain the exact reason that led
to the death of the civic police volunteer.

The victim’s family members went to the police station on Saturday morning and held an agitation.

They protested against the incident and demanded a proper probe into the death of Udayan.

The demonstration was withdrawn after senior police officers intervened and assured that proper steps would be taken to ascertain whether there was any foul play behind the death of the civic police volunteer.

Police spoke to the victim’s family members to know whether he had been suffering from any sort of ailment for the past few days. But his family members could not give any concrete information in this regard.

The investigating officers also spoke to his colleagues, but they too failed to give any clue to help police to ascertain whether there was any foul play behind Udayan’s death.
